Questions by CLINIC; answers by Grace Hantzis, LMT.
When did you start your practice? When did you join CLINIC? I officially joined CLINIC in November 2024, and I’m thrilled to be turning a long-time dream into reality. Being here allows me to curate deeply personalized sessions and connect with clients on a more meaningful level.
What is the story of your business? Did you work for others or move from another location? My practice grew from a deep personal interest in the human body and mind. After earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UMass Amherst, I became fascinated by the mind-body connection and realized how powerful massage therapy can be for both mental and physical well-being. I gained valuable experience working at renowned wellness centers and spas, including Sunshine Massage Studio in Vail, CO, Canyon Ranch Spa in Lenox, MA, and Newton Chiropractic Wellness Center in Newton, MA. Once I refined my skills, I decided to create my own practice where I could offer more personalized care, build deeper relationships with clients, and incorporate my unique techniques, such as meditation massage and breathing exercises from my yoga background. Joining CLINIC felt like the perfect next step to continue expanding my ability to help clients on a more personal level.
Do you work with other approaches in your sessions? Absolutely! I often incorporate Reiki into my massage sessions. Reiki allows me to work with the body’s energetic flow, complementing the physical manipulation of muscles with a more holistic, energy-focused approach. This synergy helps clients release tension on both the physical and energetic levels, promoting long-lasting relief and healing. Another modality I love to use is cupping. While massage often involves compressing the muscles, cupping works to decompress tough-to-reach areas, aiding blood circulation, increasing range of motion, and releasing muscle tension.
What else is distinctive about the way you practice? What sets my practice apart is my strong belief in the mind-body connection and how I guide clients into relaxation. I use a soothing voice and specific cues to help them relax their bodies, incorporating deep breathing techniques throughout the session. This approach calms the nervous system and helps clients release physical and mental tension more effectively. I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of each individual, ensuring that every treatment addresses both emotional well-being and physical relief.
What do you love most about your modality and the work you do? What I love most is the immediate and profound impact massage therapy can have. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the transformation in a client’s demeanor, whether it’s the physical relief they experience or the emotional release that occurs during a session. It’s gratifying to know that my work brings peace and healing to someone’s body and mind.
Who do you most like to work with? I love working with clients who are open to exploring how massage therapy can help them on multiple levels. Whether they come to me for stress relief, injury recovery, or chronic pain management, I appreciate clients who are committed to their healing journey and are willing to come for multiple sessions within a three-month period to see more effective results.
What is something about your work that might surprise people? Many people are surprised by how deeply therapeutic massage can be for emotional well-being. It’s not just about physical relief from muscle tension; massage can profoundly impact mental health. I’ve seen firsthand how it can help reduce anxiety, alleviate stress, and promote better sleep. The mind-body connection is incredibly powerful.
What is a fun fact about you that might surprise people?
A fun fact about me is that I was an intern at CLINIC during college. My time here introduced me to this amazing healing community and played a significant role in inspiring me to become a massage therapist. Returning to CLINIC to launch my practice feels like a full-circle moment, and I’m grateful to be part of this incredible space.
